CALL FOR PAPERS

We are pleased to announce that the 9th Annual Postgraduate Forum on Genetics and Society (PFGS) colloquium will be held at Cardiff University between 31st August and the 2nd September 2005. The colloquium is generously supported by the ESRC Genomics Forum. The colloquium will be opened with a keynote speech from the science writer Jon Turney, and will include a workshop from Professor An- drew Webster (SATSU, University of York) on the new Social Science Research Ethics Framework, with other speakers to be confirmed.

This colloquium will provide all participants with the opportunity to present work-in-progress and discuss the research of others in a supportive and constructive environment. Presentations by keynote speak- ers and workshop sessions will help postgraduate researchers develop the skills and knowledge re- quired for successful careers. All postgraduates wishing to attend this colloquium should register their interest with the organisers as soon as possible.

The theme of the colloquium is ‘The Genetic Information Age’. Papers are invited on this broad theme from postgraduate researchers working in, but not limited to, sociology, philosophy, humanities, history, economics and law. The colloquium (inc. accommodation and meals) is free to PFGS members, and economy travel expenses (up to £100) will be covered for UK-based postgraduates. Non-UK post- graduates are invited to attend. To become a PFGS member register at http://www.pfgs.org. Membership is free.

In order to ensure that sufficient accommodation is booked, the organisers urgently ask postgraduates to e-mail bartletta@cardiff.ac.uk or lewisjt1@cardiff.ac.uk at the earliest opportunity stating their inten- tion to attend the colloquium and whether they wish to present a paper.

Those wishing to present a paper should submit an abstract of 200 words (maximum) in either plain text or MS Word format by Wednesday 13th July to bartletta@cardiff.ac.uk or lewisjt1@cardiff.ac.uk. Pa- pers should be around 20 minutes in length. Submissions should include: name and title, paper title, affiliation, email address, telephone number and postal address.
